Most people find the loss of a loved one as a devastating and life changing experience. As the waves of loss washes over you it becomes a process of trying to make sense of the sadness, emptiness and often anger.
There is no "right way" of grieving and people are vastly different in how they process emotions. However, the fact remains, emotions need to be processed. Unprocessed emotions become stuck and can often lead to on-going anxiety and depression.
Find what works for you. The following are some helpful pointers that can assist in your journey to emotional healing:
Be kind to yourself - Read a book, go for a walk, spend some time in nature to feel grounded again
Cry when the tears come - Sometimes tears say what words cannot
Be around people who feed your soul - Draw on their serenity and support
Find ways to remember the person - Photos, a special place you feel connected to them or maybe music they enjoyed
Seek professional assistance if you choose to
Remember that healing takes time so be patient with yourself.
