Say About Me

Katie K.

Elmien is a wonderful counsellor who helped me navigate the one of the most challenging chapters in my life. I was fortunate enough to survive a serious car accident and connect with Elmien, who supported my journey to recovery.

While very professional, Elmien has an amazing gift of connecting with her clients and creating a friendly and safe space. I felt comfortable to openly share my thoughts and feelings in our sessions. Elmien has not only done an exceptional job of listening and empathising with my issues, but also offered practical advice.  With Elmien’s guidance I felt more empowered and inspired to face difficulties of my situation, while being kind to myself.

I’m utterly grateful for Elmien’s help, guidance and the beautiful connection we built together, which I was able to maintain via video sessions after relocating to another city.

Shanie R.

Elmien was very professional, level-headed, focussed and worked well with my husband and me. She was a voice of reason and has deep insight and maturity as a therapist. She is highly knowledgeable in the field of addiction and is a skilled, fair and phenomenal therapist. She understood dual diagnosis clients intrinsically and worked well with us in our time of need. She kept calm and never raised her voice to us despite some really challenging conversations. She was kind, fair, balanced, highly skilled and had good knowledge of people overcoming addiction. As a clinical therapist, Elmien is one of the best I have ever encountered. Elmien had strong boundaries yet kept her compassion for us as a couple.

Hermony B.

Elmien, thank you for your hard work and effort in assisting my son who is Autistic. Your creativity and persistence is paying off dividends.  He is far more confident as a boy and I have noticed a marked improvement in his social skills. You had a uncanny way of making him feel comfortable and your work with him seldom seemed like "work".  The fact that you provided home visits made my life easier as a single parent. Your assistance to me as a parent was also extremely helpful and made me feel less overwhelmed and isolated. Elmien is someone I can highly recommend as a child counsellor and providing NDIS support.

Helping you Move Forward

Treatment Methods

There are different branches of psychology and since psychology is such a broad field that conveying its depth and breadth can be difficult. As a result, several unique and distinctive branches of psychology have emerged, each one dealing with a specific subtopic within the study of the mind, brain, and behavior.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Taps into the experiences that influence your early attachment experiences, or the bonds that developed between you and your early caregivers, in order to resolve the resulting feelings, thoughts, communications, and behaviours that you may have adopted as avoidant coping mechanisms. For someone whose current experiences are being negatively impacted by early trauma. Attachment-Based Therapy may be an effective therapeutic approach. This approach is often used in parent-child and family therapy sessions.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Encourages mindfulness to overcome the undesirable attitudes, thoughts, and feelings that result from complications that come with life. ACT builds on a model of accepting our reactions, staying present, and making choices that then enable us to act. Someone who struggles with social anxiety, continued stress, and depression could benefit from ACT.

Dialectical Behaviour

Therapy (DBT)

Promotes healing by providing skills to manage difficult emotions. Your therapist incorporates mindfulness, self-awareness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal communication into your treatment plan. DBT is a great modality if you are struggling with stress or anxiety, or if you find yourself overwhelmed by strong emotional reactions. DBT can consist of group therapy sessions in addition to the individual sessions with the therapist.
